As we looked at last week, the Ford EcoBoost engine is one of the least expensive ways to improve fuel economy. Ford hopes to make the EcoBoost engine available as an option on 90 percent of its vehicles, giving buyers across the spectrum plenty of options for increasing fuel efficiency.

The EcoBoost will first be introduced in the Ford Flex, the Ford Taurus SHO, as well as the Lincoln MKS and the Lincoln MKT. These midsize sedans and crossover SUVs will get a six cylinder engine with EcoBoost, as an alternative to the V8 model.
It is also expected that the Ford F-150 pickup truck will be offered in 2010 as a six cylinder engine including the EcoBoost technology, as a fuel efficient alternative to the V8 truck.

Not only is fuel economy better with the EcoBoost engine, carbon dioxide emissions are as much as 15 percent lower than a comparable engine.
